"Tightrope" by Pete Vogel (Modern Folk/Adult Rock Artist from Columbus, Ohio (OH))

"Tightrope" is an impressive CD that features the adult rock and modern folk music of Pete Vogel and a cast of some of Columbus, Ohio's most talented musicians. The music on the CD is layered with many instruments that nicely back the strong vocals and memorable songwriting. All of the tracks that we heard were solid, with many catchy upbeat tunes, nicely mixed with some softer, more acoustic tracks. The impressive musicianship on the CD is a testament to the strong local music scene in Columbus. "Hollywood, USA" has an excellent up-beat groove with screeching sax fills, and reminds us of Stevie Wonder. "On the Gable" is a beautiful, soft song with tasteful piano and acoustic guitar work that highlight an emotional vocal performance. "Primitive Spirit" by The Primatives (Folk Rock band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (PA))

"Primitive Spirit" is a creative, organic folk rock CD by The Primatives. The tracks on the CD are very acoustic, spiritual and earthy. Various percussive instruments and flute fills are nicely used to add depth to the sound of the primarily clean guitar sound. The strength of the CD lies in the meaningful songwriting that is brought to life by this distinctive organic sound, combined with the tasteful yet complex 3-part harmonies. Track 6, called Pyare, has a typical sound of the CD, and is one of our favorite tracks because the harmonies and flute fills blend particularly well on this track. The guitar work throughout the CD is impressive, especially the acoustic guitar licks in Sorry. The CD breathes fresh life into a very 60s folk rock sound that will remind you of bands such as Crosby Stills Nash and Young and The Grateful Dead. If you enjoy folk rock, especially the legendary folk rock artists of the 60s, you will enjoy this CD. Pick up a copy today!

"Anything I Can" by Michael Stevens (Folk/Easy Listening Artist from Pennsylvania (PA))

"Anything I Can" is a CD full of heartfelt songs that tell stories about life and love. The production is very clean and allows the lyrics to cut through the music. Most of the tracks, such as Gotta Find Time, are story-telling folk music, with some tracks, such as The Mirror is Getting Older and 27 Shades of Black, being a more easy-listening style with an alternative music influence. Michael's vocal style has a retro 60s folk/easy-listening feel to it. Tracks such as 27 Shades of Black, have memorable choruses and clever lyrics. If you enjoy singer-songwriter folk artists such as Simon and Garfunkel, you'll enjoy this CD. Pick up a copy today!

"Keep on Walking" by Bliss'n'Blue (Modern Folk band from Germany (DE))

"Keep on Walking" is an excellent modern folk CD. When you listen to this CD you will feel like you are in a pub listening to an extremely talented group of musicians having fun entertaining you. This reflects on the excellent production that allows the details of the instrumentation, songwriting, and vocals as well as the personality of the band to shine through. The band is very tight and musically impressive, creating a very pleasing sound mix of acoustic instruments. The songs are catchy and melodic yet unpredictably interesting. We love the guitar licks, melodic chorus, and overall toe-tapping groove of the title track and "The Beggar," two of our favorite tracks. The vocals on this CD have excellent pitch and a swagger, harmony, and raspiness that gives the "Saturday night at the pub" feel to the music.
