"Double Vision" by David Essig and Rick Scott (Folk Artist from British Columbia, Canada)

David Essig and Rick Scott have written a fantastic country/blues album with their release of "Double Vision." Both musicians' individual talents combine for a classic sound and all lovers of that old-time country blues sound is going to want to own this album. The moment the lush harmonies on "Willie P" wash over you, there is no doubt in your mind that this record is going to be amazing. Essig, a well known guitarist, shows off his skills quite nicely on tracks such as "Little Cross to Bear" and "Louisiana Mind." Scott's vocals are also well done on this record and naming just one or two songs as highlights just wouldn't do him justice. His vocal tone screams of J.J. Cale and has a mature, rootsy vibe to it. This album, "Double Vision," is a must have for any lover of old country blues!

"On Roads" by Tremblay Evans (Folk/Country Artist from Michigan (MI))

Highly influenced by the roots of American music, Tremblay Evans delivers a well polished batch of folk songs on their recent CD "On Roads." This trio's songwriting style reflects the old Americana sounds, by just simply describing everyday life and what we all go through. The overall band tone also has a great 60's throwback sound and only features guitar, harmonica, banjo and mandolin. "Love Isn't Enough" is a standout track that eloquently mixes the writing style of Woody Guthrie and the vocal impressions of Buddy Holly. Another notable track is "The Coming Up and Going Down," a song that tells the tale of the average person and what transpires throughout their life. "On Roads" is a perfect listen for anyone who enjoys the classic folk sounds of the 1960's.

RadioIndy is pleased to present The Tiger and Me with a GrIndie Award for the CD "The Tiger and Me"

RadioIndy is pleased to present The Tiger and Me with a GrIndie Award for the CD "The Tiger and Me"

This folk/country acoustic duo "The Tiger and Me" has compiled a creative album while utilizing simplistic instruments with this self-titled CD. The vocals are sung with pure and simple qualities with velvety harmonies bringing together the collection of songs on the album. "Alleyway" is bluesy, with a slow, easy moving drum beat. As a variation in instruments, take note how the electric piano changes to acoustic piano throughout this song. As a change of tempo "Forsaken Few" has a nice country swing while the lyrics tells an interesting story. Split lead vocals on the verses showcase how these impressive lyrics are interpreted. A round effect is heard when a vocal drum beat starts. A chanting, low, walking bass line begins the cut "The Elephant." It is a well produced track as each part can be heard separately while fusing together with syncopated harmonies and rhythms. If you like a little folk music entwined with a little country beat you will not be disappointed when you hear the album "The Tiger and Me."

RadioIndy is pleased to present Juliana McCorison with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Not Just Lullabies From Planet Earth"

RadioIndy is pleased to present Juliana McCorison with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Not Just Lullabies From Planet Earth"

Similar to the music of Joan Baez, Juliana McCorison's latest, "Not Just Lullabies From Planet Earth," brings a refreshing, sometimes whimsical taste of Folk music. McCorison offers a clean and crisp vocal quality that is sweet and charming. Never outshining the lead vocals, the harmonies are in perfect musical sync. It's a refreshing change of pace to hear not so typical instruments on an album. For example, McCorison has incorporated the use of cello, glockenspiel, dulcimers, and mandolin, offering truly tender, melodic music. Let your mind take you on a relaxing trip to the island of tropical music when you hear "Isle Au Haut," which begins with the soothing sound of ocean waves. "Close Your Eyes" describes in detail how there are nightmares and demons in your mind and in and under your bed. The track's theme is clever how it speaks of children's fears, yet it is still moving to an adult as they can relate to the child within themselves. The use of the cello is striking, but played with such passion. Juliana McCorison has created a remarkable folk compilation, full of innovating yet gentle musical pleasure, with "Not Just Lullabies From Planet Earth."

"Words From Notes" by Triflemore (World Artist from Scotland)

Triflemore blends the guitar and voice into one beautiful sound on their latest disc, "Words From Notes." The talented duo is comprised of singer Susan Rhea, who hails from small-town America, and guitarist Owen Goudie from the Shetland Islands. Together, their collaborative talents combine to produce a touching CD, filled with throwback sounds of folk singers from the late 1960's. Rhea's voice is reminiscent of Joni Mitchell in all the best ways imaginable. Her voice is wonderful to hear and her eloquent tones can be heard on songs like "Goudfield" and "Perfect." Not to go unnoticed, Goudie's finger style guitar work is also exceptional in its own right. You can tell he has crafted his melodies around Rhea's vocals and intertwines them so one does not overshadow the other. A highlight of his playing can be heard on "Signal." "Words From Notes" is a perfect fit for any Joni Mitchell or Emmylou Harris fan and could very well be used to paint the soundtrack of all of our lives.
